A Roaring Success: Davies Music Arts Club Experiences The Great Gatsby at PPAC!

Posted Date: 11/06/26 (02:00 PM)

Yesterday morning, our Davies students traveled to the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) for a special matinee performance of The Great Gatsby, and it was an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance!

A group of students poses for a photo on a city sidewalk in front of a theater marquee reading 'THE GREAT GATSBY'.

Under the organization of Ms. Messier and Mr. Nesse, our students stepped into the historic theater ready to immerse themselves in 1920s glamour, music, and drama—and the production delivered beyond expectations. From dazzling choreography and stunning set design to powerhouse vocals, our students were captivated from the opening note to the final bow.

A large audience fills the ornate red theater, with many people smiling and looking towards the camera.

What Our Students Are Saying

“The Great Gatsby musical was, hands down, the best we have seen so far in the music club. The songs were great and catchy; the staging and costume changes were magnificent; the immersion was on point, and the plot twists were even better.”
— Hezron Desrosiers

“The Great Gatsby was absolutely phenomenal. The singing and set design were beautifully done; I would give it 5 stars.”
— Ciara Marchand

“Every year, I look forward to the amazing performances put on at PPAC. This year didn't disappoint with its magnificent rendition of The Great Gatsby.”
— Alvin Soriano De La Cruz

A Teacher's Perspective

The energy in the theater was electric. ELA Teacher Mrs. Dumouchelle, who attended the public evening show earlier in the week before joining the students yesterday, shared:

“I wanted to say that I attended the performance on Tuesday night and then again with the students yesterday and I enjoyed yesterday's performance so much more. It was such a joy to experience theatre through their eyes and be a part of their excitement. They screamed when Gatsby died, danced in their seats, and applauded with such gusto at the end of a song that one of the actors actually broke character and smiled. It was amazing.”

A huge thank you to Ms. Messier, Mr. Nesse, our chaperones, and the team at PPAC for making this enriching arts experience possible for our school.
