The School Nurse’s Office at Davies provides essential services to support student wellness.
For students requiring regular medication, a registered nurse is available to address sudden illnesses or accidents during school hours. First aid will be administered, and an effort will be made to notify a parent or guardian. Please note that first aid is limited to immediate and temporary care and does not include the administration of medication. The school nurse does not provide treatment for illnesses or injuries that occur outside the school's jurisdiction.
An emergency health form will be distributed to each student, which must be completed by a parent or guardian and returned to the nurse's office promptly.
Students should only report to the nurse's office during the school day when summoned or in cases of illness or accident. It is the student's responsibility to obtain permission and a corridor pass from their teacher to visit the nurse.
To receive a medical excuse from any courses, including physical education, a physician's certificate specifying the duration and reason for the absence must be submitted to the nurse’s office.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to provide a doctor’s note to the nurse after any medical appointments to ensure that health records are kept up to date. Such notes are required for absences to be considered excused. Additionally, all students participating in sports must have a yearly physical on file with the school nurse.
If a student has a health condition that requires special attention, including medication, it is essential to inform the nurse. Any student needing to take medication during school hours must present a note from both their doctor and their parent or guardian. This policy applies to both prescription and over-the-counter medications. All medications must be kept in the nurse’s office in their original containers.
Students with asthma who require an inhaler must provide a doctor's note stating, “May carry and self-medicate.” Additionally, students with allergic reactions requiring an EPI-PEN must present a doctor’s note and are required to carry the EPI-PEN on their person at all times.
