Special Student Presentation: Second-Generation Holocaust Education

Posted Date: 11/04/26 (02:00 PM)

On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Davies students gathered in the Library Media Center for a deeply moving presentation by Barbara Fields. As the child of Holocaust survivors, Ms. Fields shared her personal perspective and her family’s story, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

Events like this provide our students with essential history and powerful real-world connections. Here is what a few of our students shared after listening to her story:
  • "I had no clue that the Dominican Republic was one of the only places to accept refugees during the Holocaust. This made me really proud of my culture."
  • "It was interesting to me that people traveled for four weeks even though they weren’t much older than me. That must have been so scary."
  • "The way she spoke really made me want to listen."
  • "I had no clue how accepting Shanghai was of the Jewish community."
We extend a special thank you to Ms. Messier for organizing this event, and to the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center in Rhode Island for sponsoring the presentation. The mission of the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center is to teach the history of the Holocaust in order to promote human dignity, combat antisemitism, and confront all forms of hate.

Thank you to all the students and faculty who joined us for this important educational opportunity!
