4,080 Pounds of Impact: Our Pre-Engineering Students Are Changing the Game! ♻️

Our Pre-Engineering SkillsUSA team, SkillsUSA: CVC Electronic Recovery, collected 4,080 lbs of e-waste!
While seniors Audrey Rolfe (Lincoln), Lissalin Guzman (Pawtucket), and Zyere Blake (Pawtucket) are aiming for gold at the March 12th competition, the real victory is the systemic change they have already achieved.
What began with one student asking if a broken calculator belonged in the trash has evolved into a massive win for Rhode Island:
- The team diverted over two tons of waste including 1,296 lbs of monitors and 1,251 lbs of computers from the Central Landfill.
- RI Resource Recovery praised the team’s leadership, and RI DEM has requested the students' data and community feedback to help improve state-wide sustainable materials management.
- This work continues as our seniors train sophomore pre-engineering students to lead future drives.
- Davies is now a permanent, recurring e-waste collection site for Lincoln through Indie Cycle, LLC.
These students have proven that they can have a measurable, positive impact on the environment that will outlast their time at our school.
Attached are Statements of Impact from our partners to see the full scope of this accomplishment!
