🌍🔧 Engineering for a Better World: How Davies Students Are Learning to Build a Healthier Planet

Posted Date: 6/17/25 (6:00 PM)

Andrew Root and Oliver RodriguesOn June 5th, 9th-grade students in our Pre-Engineering Technology program presented their in-depth exploration into the world of Environmental Engineering (EnvE) — a branch of engineering focused on solving environmental challenges to protect public health and the planet.

As part of their learning, students studied key topics like water resource management, air quality, waste disposal, sustainability, and engineering ethics. They researched real-world examples, identified environmental systems at Davies, and explored how engineers use science and innovation to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and improve quality of life.

From examining the role of catch basins and retention ponds on campus, to understanding how HVAC systems and air purifiers tie into air quality management, students connected global challenges to their own community. They even learned how environmental engineers uphold a Code of Ethics to make responsible, people-centered decisions.

These young engineers-in-training are already thinking critically about how to create lasting, positive change — and we couldn't be more proud!

👏 Great work, Grade 9!
