Juliet St. Pierre with Dr. Rowley

This week, our 11th-grade Biomanufacturing Technology students took their learning beyond the classroom with an exciting trip to the University of Rhode Island! Students toured the greenhouse, extracted plant molecules, and laid the groundwork for future experiments—bringing science to life in an unforgettable way.

Hosted by Dr. David Rowley, a leading researcher in natural product discovery and antibiotic resistance, students explored cutting-edge biotechnology research happening right here in Rhode Island. Dr. Rowley and his team study marine and terrestrial environments to uncover new ways to fight infectious diseases—work that could lead to life-saving medical advancements.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to:

🔬 Learn about the molecular fight against antibiotic resistance
🌱 Explore how natural products can lead to new medicines
🧪 Engage in hands-on scientific discovery and future experiments

From the lab to the field, our students are just beginning their promising journey into biomanufacturing. We can’t wait to see how their experiences at URI shape their ambitions in the biotech field! 🚀
